Family Dressing

Joyce Faughnan recommends sage-flavored sausage, which added a seasonal tang that definitely kept our judges coming back for more. Her final tip: "Serve with love."

1 pound Jimmy Dean sausage  (I use sage flavored)
1 pound loaf fresh bread, cubed
1 cup chopped celery
poultry seasoning to taste
1-2 onions, diced
parsley to taste
1 large can of mushrooms, stems and pieces, drained
1 stick of margarine
1 quart scalded milk

Preheat oven to 350° F.
Fry pork sausage, celery and onion slowly in margarine. When almost cooked through, add mushrooms and cook a little more. Let cool.
In another bowl, mix cubed bread, poultry seasoning and parsley. Combine with pork mixture and scalded milk to desired consistency.
Put in baking dish and bake for about 30 minutes covered with foil. Then uncover and bake for about 10 more minutes.
