The girls basketball teams from Tartan and North played the first of their two annual regular-season match-ups recently, and it was all Titans. Tartan ran away with a 72-37 win over the Polars on Jan. 15 at North.

It was the second straight victory for the Titans, who had beaten Henry Sibley by five points earlier in the week. Tartan saw its brief winning streak come to an end on Jan. 19 in a 55-50 loss to Simley.

Not much had been going right for North heading into that game. The Polars were winless heading into the contest and emerged from it in the same boat. The two teams meet again on Tuesday, Feb. 16, this time at Tartan.

North did pick up its first victory of the season in its next game, however. The Polars hosted South St. Paul on Jan. 19 and took down the Packers 54-46. Three different Polars reached double figures in the victory as Karissa Star paced North with 16 points, Abigail Schouvieller added 11 and Anna Kemper contributed 10.

North is in action twice this week as Henry Sibley pays a visit on Jan. 26 and East Ridge comes in for a non-conference game on Jan. 29. Tartan travels to South St. Paul on Jan. 26 and hosts Mahtomedi on Jan. 29.
