‘Race: the Power of an Illusion’ film series

To further your understanding of race in society, science and history, attend these viewings of the three-part series called Race: the Power of an Illusion. The series will be held on Nov. 1, 15, and 29 from 7-9 p.m. Each film is an hour long and will be followed by a discussion.

On Nov. 1, “The Difference Between Us” examines the science that challenges our assumptions about race. The film will be shown at Galilee Lutheran Church, 145 McCarrons Blvd. On Nov. 15, “The Story We Tell” uncovers the roots of race in America, how it was legitimized and adopted, and how it continues to serve to rationalize and justify social inequalities. The film will be shown at Calvary Baptist Church, 2120 Lexington Ave. N. On Nov. 29, “The House We Live In” uncovers how race resides in politics, economics and culture, but not nature. The film will be shown at Church of Corpus Christi, 2131 Fairview Ave. N.
