Falcon Heights

Act natural

Out on patrol Oct. 15, officers saw a car with expired registration and went to pull it over. The squad car turned around and the car appeared to evade police. A short time later, in the area of the 1700 block of Lindig Street, police saw the driver of the car park it and begin walking away. Police ran the car’s license plate and it came back stolen out of Wright County, so they arrested the driver, a 29-year-old man, who was booked at the Ramsey County Jail for felony motor vehicle theft.

Just a warning ...

Police officers were feeling lenient Oct. 10-16 and handed out 10 verbal or written warnings through the Larpenteur Avenue corridor for various violations including non-functioning taillights, expired tabs and driving without headlights.

Statute of limitations on domestic assault

A 59-year-old man filed a report of a domestic assault against his 55-year-old wife; the assault happened in 2014. Police told the man that the statute of limitations had expired and there was nothing the police could do.

Lauderdale

Arrests

Police arrested and cited a 28-year-old woman Oct. 11 at Como Avenue and Eustis Street for operating an uninsured vehicle and for driving with a suspended license; a 49-year-old man was arrested and cited Oct. 11 at Eustis and Ione Street for driving with a revoked license; and a 30-year-old woman was arrested and cited Oct. 14 at Larpenteur Avenue and Fulham Street for driving with a suspended license and having no proof of insurance.

Little Canada

Burglary

Someone broke into an apartment in the 2400 block of Rice Street prior to Oct. 19. They trashed the place, emptied a water jug that was full of money and apparently stole a gun — police found an empty gun case on the bed. The burglar got in through a back window.

Early in the morning of Oct. 21, someone hopped the fence at Hom Furniture in the 3200 block of Country Drive and stole two outdoor patio coolers, valued at a total of a cool $600. Police looked at security footage and saw a silver car parked in the store’s lot at around 3:25 a.m.

Flaming bag of ???

A 36-year-old man told police Oct. 22 that four teenagers started a small fire on his apartment patio with a brown paper bag — they lit it and ran off. The man caught up with the kids and walked them back to his place, only to have them run off again. The man said he recognized two of them, girls, who had recently been harassing his daughter. Police are investigating and have suspects.

Get the work done, then pay

A Little Canada resident told police Oct. 23 they’d paid a St. Paul-based contractor $7,300 to replace windows on their home, before the work was completed. The homeowner told police the contractor is incommunicado and has not shown up. When police contacted the contractor, he said he was aware of the issue — he’d received a letter about a civil lawsuit.

A well-timed robbery

A man was mugged Oct. 24 in the 100 block of Big Circle Drive while getting into his car in the morning on the way to work. The 27-year-old told police that two men approached him and stuck a gun into his back. They ordered him to open his other car, which he did. The men took a $600 iPhone, a $1,200 drone and its $200 storage backpack, along with a $600 Samsung tablet, before running off. Police have possible fingerprints.
