One man dead, another injured outside St. Paul Saloon
A shooting occurred on the 1000 block of Hudson Road, near the St. Paul Saloon, leaving one man dead and another wounded.
The incident took place on Sunday night, Jan. 29. St. Paul police were called to the scene at about 11:30 p.m. on a report of shots fired.
When officers arrived, they found two adult males outside with apparent gunshot wounds. St. Paul Fire Department medics transported the victims to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. One of the men did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The second victim is still being treated for his injuries.
Homicide investigators are working to determine what led to the shooting, and the department's forensics unit is processing the scene. It is unknown at this time if the two men were patrons at the bar, if they knew each other or who did the shooting.
This is St. Paul's second homicide in 2017.
St. Paul police spokesperson Sgt. Mike Ernster said investigators do not believe this was a random incident.
St. Paul Saloon owner Alex Rivero said this is "definitely an isolated situation." The bar, which re-opened under Rivero's ownership about six months ago, has not had police called to it since it re-opened.
"We want to make sure it [the bar] is a safe environment," Rivero said. "If it takes me having to close my bar at 10 or 11 o'clock at night, then I'll do that. A person shouldn't have to lose their life."
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office is currently working to identify the deceased victim and determine an exact cause of death.
St. Paul police said this is an open and active investigation and no additional information is available.
