Follow Edina’s lead: Raise the age for buying tobacco

To the Editor:

If Edina can (and did) raise its minimum tobacco-purchasing age to 21, then so can Roseville and the other communities in the area. We have known for decades the damage smoking and secondhand smoke causes; now is the time to do something about it. Attorney General Lori Swanson has a packet of information on secondhand smoke that city leaders statewide should read and heed ASAP.

They are always talking about making their communities “the best” for living, business, recreation and more. Making them healthier for all would be a major step in the right direction. By the way, this writer quit smoking cold turkey after the U.S. attorney general during the JFK administration issued the first warning about smoking.
