White Bear Avenue closure will extend to south of I-94 bridge

Motorists are encouraged to allow for extra time starting now through early June due to road and ramp closures along I-94 and White Bear Avenue in St. Paul. The closure of White Bear Avenue from Old Hudson Road to Minnehaha Avenue will be extended to the southern end of the I-94 bridge beginning on May 12. Detours will be signed. Access to local businesses and neighborhoods in the work zone will be maintained throughout the closures, but may be impacted by detours.

Detours

To access northbound White Bear Avenue from I-94: westbound motorists along I-94 should take Century Avenue/120 along Old Hudson Road to McKnight Road to Minnehaha Avenue to White Bear Avenue. Eastbound I-94 and local motorists should take McKnight Road to Minnehaha Avenue to White Bear Avenue.

To access southbound White Bear Avenue from I-94: westbound motorists along I-94 should take Century Avenue/120 along Old Hudson Road to Ruth Street and follow Suburban Avenue west to White Bear Avenue. The White Bear Avenue ramp will remain open for eastbound motorists.

Metro Transit bus routes 63 and 80 will also be affected. Transit customers are encouraged to sign up for Rider Alerts from Metro Transit.

Project information

Ramsey County and the Minnesota Department of Transportation are coordinating closures to complete necessary bridge repair, ramp resurfacing, utility improvements and pedestrian safety improvements. This schedule will allow for one closure instead of two this construction season, lessening the overall burden on travelers. Ramsey County’s work is focused on roadway and pedestrian safety improvements on White Bear Avenue (County Road 65). MnDOT’s work is focused on I-94 ramps, highway pavement and bridge repair.
