North St. Paul City Council discussing backyard chickens and bees

The North St. Paul City Council is considering allowing residents to keep backyard chickens and/or backyard bees. The council has discussed the topic at two city council workshops so far this year and is planning to continue the discussion at the Sept. 5 workshop. At this meeting, city staff will be presenting sample ordinances and policies from other cities. The city council workshop will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at North St. Paul City Hall, 2400 Margaret St.


Bee-come a bee monitor

Free Citizen Science Pollinator Training will be offered at Maplewood YMCA/Community Center and Fish Creek Natural Area on Sept. 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The rain date for the outdoor portion is Sept. 10. Firetrucks at the Library 

The firefighters from the Oakdale Fire Department will visit the Oakdale Library on Thursday, Sept. 14, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The fire truck presentation includes safety tips, equipment demonstrations and fire trucks on site for participants to explore.

 This event is perfect for preschool and school age children, but all ages are welcome. No registration is required. This event, which was rescheduled from July, may be cancelled due to weather. The Oakdale Library is located at 1010 Heron Ave. N.
