South-West Review Bulletin Board July 1, 2018

Rock, Rattle, and Rhyme Storytime

Through the use of books, music, and movement children learn social skills, listening comprehension, and the foundations of reading through letters, numbers, rhyming, and vocabulary from 6:15 to 7 p.m., on July 2. Intended for children up to age 3 and their caregivers, this will take place at the South St. Paul Library, 106 Third Ave. N.

Growing Neighbors

Join the South St. Paul Library, 106 Third Ave. N, on July 6 for learning experiences inspired by viewing episodes from “Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood.” Kids will learn that social-emotional skills are tools they can use to make the world a better place. Since children learn more when watching educational programming with their caregivers, adults are asked to stay and participate in viewing and discussions. Older siblings are welcome, but this is geared for kids ages 4 to 8. It will run from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Totally Turtles

On July 7, from 2 to 3:15 p.m., learn what makes turtles so unique when a volunteer is “transformed” into one. Hand-feed a large tortoise, meet the five Minnesota-native turtle species and discover how they are different from one another. Presented by Snake Discovery, this will take place at the West St. Paul Library, 199 Wentworth Ave. E.

Sensory-Friendly Saturdays

Explore books, music, movement and play in a sensory-friendly setting that welcomes children ages 3 to 8 of all abilities including those who have difficulty in large groups, are on the autism spectrum, or are sensitive to sensory overload. One registration required per family for this event on July 7 from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., at the West St. Paul Library, 199 Wentworth Ave. E. An adult must accompany each registered child, and siblings are welcome. Call 651-554-6800 to register.

World War II - The Home Front

Without the support and endeavors of Americans on “the Home Front”, our military forces could not have defeated the Axis and won the freedom of peoples around the globe. Michael’s presentation on “World War II - The Home Front” focuses on the personal and nationwide fight in which all Americans had a part to play in the defeat of those who would strip away our freedoms. Knitting, sewing, driving less, collecting milkweed pods, saving fats from cooking, eating less sugar; the list is nearly endless. Register by July 9 for this session that will take place on July 11 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., at Thompson Park Activity Center, 1200 Stassen Lane, West St. Paul. The cost is $7, and register by calling 651-403-8300.

Half Pint Safety Camp

Kids ages 4 to 6 can spend the morning of July 12 learning from safety professional about police, fire, stranger danger, personal safety and other basic safety topics from 9 a.m. to noon at Inver Grove Heights Parks and Recreation, 8055 Barbara Ave. Snacks are included.
