Midway skaters compete on Apostle Islands

On June 15, Midway Speedskating Club members competed in the Apostle Islands Inline Marathon. Midway trains at the Roseville OVAL.

Auggie Herman, 15 of Forest Lake, took top honors within Midway, finishing sixth in the Pro-Advanced Open category with a time of 1:19:55. Teammates Adam Johnson, 17 of Oakdale, and Sami Banat, 16 of St Paul, were right behind Herman with times of 1:20:00 and 1:20:02.  

Michael Johnson, 16 of Oakdale, came in 12th and Axel Leopold, 16 of Center City, came in 13th in the Pro-Advanced Open category. Giorgia Birkeland, 17 of White Bear Lake, took second place for the Pro Advance Women with a time of 1:20:43. Emily Bos, 14 of Roseville, competed in the half marathon and took first place for skaters ages 13-17. 

Greater Minnesota Speedskating and Inlineskatempls host inline races at the Roseville OVAL every Wednesday at 6 p.m. through Aug. 21. Races are free and open to all ages.  If you would like to learn to inline skate, lessons are available starting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays. There is no registration, just a $5 drop-in lesson fee. Rental Rollerblade skates and safety equipment are also available.
