Dementia awareness and early detection

Register to increase your awareness of various types of dementia, learn how to recognize early symptoms and discover resources available to family, friends and caregivers. Presented by DARTS, this will take place July 15 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at the Inver Glen Library, 8098 Blaine Ave. E.


Fairy Gardens 

Join Linda Reid as she takes us into her beautiful fairy garden in South St. Paul. Reid will share how she began her fairy garden, what she has learned and her best kept secrets. Someone will also be on-hand to answer any questions on construction. This tour will conclude with ice tea and cookies while watching for fairies. Reid’s fairy garden address will be provided once you register for this summertime event. Register by July 15 for this tour on July 22. Meet at Thompson Park Activity Center, 1200 Stassen Lane, West St. Paul, at 9:30 a.m. to carpool or drive yourself to Reid’s home. The tour will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Costing $5, register by calling 651-403-8300.


Tour de Rec

Visit Harmon Park, 230 Bernard St., in West St. Paul July 16 as Tour de Rec makes a stop at the park from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be activities and equipment for youth, ages 6 to 15, like games, crafts, sports and more. 


Concert in the park

Visit South Valley Park, 2980 70th St., in Inver Grove Heights July 16 for a late morning, family jam in the park. The Jolly Pops will be performing from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.


Kids ages 13 to 17, bring a variety of your own plastic bags and turn them into Plarn — plastic yarn. Weave a set of placemats that are colorful and functional. Presented by ArtStart, registration is required. This will run at the South St. Paul Library, 106 Third Ave. N., from 2 to 4 p.m., July 16. Call 651-554-3240 for more information.


Workout at Mendakota

Join Mendota Heights for free summer workouts at Mendakota Park, 2171 Dodd Road. In partnership with Anytime Fitness, all ages are invited to participate in this team training session. Workouts feature a large group-style circuit training for all fitness levels. The next session will be July 17 at 6:30 p.m., and classes last between 45 minutes to an hour.


Art posters

From 2 to 4 p.m., July 17, use a variety of materials and techniques to create vintage-looking handmade posters of your favorite band, book or movie. Draw, paint, print or collage — the choice is yours. Presented by Artistry, registration is required. Open to kids ages 11 to 17, this will take place at the West St. Paul Library, 199 Wentworth Ave. E. 


Outdoor summer concert

The Fabulous Fairlanes will showcase their unique a capella sound at Dodge Nature Cetner, 1701 Charlton St., West St. Paul, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., July 19. They are known for the unique blend of their voices as they perform doo-wop, R&B and popular songs of the 50s’ and 60s’. Come over to Dodge for a family friendly musical evening. Donations are appreciated.


Paper airplane party

Learn how to create different style airplanes and test their performance in a series of activities. Intended for kids ages 5 to 14, this will run from 2 to 4 p.m., July 19, at the South St. Paul Library, 106 Third Ave. N.
