Police arrested two men in connection with the July 9 killing of 21-year-old Lawrence Terrance Renfro in West St. Paul.

Terrell Theo Payne, a 19-year-old from Little Canada, and Nathan Wesley McDonald, 22 of Oakdale, were arrested July 30 and booked at the Dakota County Jail on probably cause for second-degree murder.

Both were charged Aug. 1 with second-degree murder. Court documents say that Renfro was living in McDonald’s sister’s apartment following a falling out between Renfro and the woman. Police say Payne and McDonald entered the apartment through a window July 9. Payne allegedly told police following his arrest that McDonald shot Renfro multiple times.

West St. Paul police found Renfro’s body after they were called to an apartment complex in the 1900 block of Oakdale Avenue at about 11 a.m. July 9. He’d been shot to death.

The person who called 911 that morning was a friend of Renfro’s who had reportedly gone over that morning to visit him.
