Summer ‘begins’ with a busy night in North St. Paul

Although summer doesn’t officially start until June 21, North St. Paul will mark the first of the month as the unofficial start of the season.

North St. Paul installs new weather siren


courtesy of City of North St. Paul • North St. Paul had a new severe weather siren installed on the roof of City Hall May 3 next to the existing siren, which will continue to be sounded at noon every day. The new siren, which has a different tone, will only be used in the event of severe weather.

North St. Paul installed a new Federal Signal siren May 3 to be used for severe weather warnings. The siren that residents are used to hearing every day at noon has not been decommissioned and will continue to mark midday.

Rep. Leon Lillie recovering after fall from ladder


Courtesy of Minnesota House Public Information Services • Despite having numerous broken bones, State Rep. Leon Lillie made a surprise appearance at the House Capital Investment Committee the morning of May 4, according to a tweet posted by @MNHouseInfo that same day.

State Rep. Leon Lillie was hospitalized after he fell off a ladder at his home April 22, breaking multiple bones.

DNR forcing North St. Paul to submit surface water plan


Aundrea Kinney/Review • North St. Paul must submit to the DNR a plan to convert the city’s water supply system from relying on groundwater to utilizing surface water. City Manager Craig Waldron noted at the April 2 city council meeting that this does not necessarily mean the city will actually be implementing the plan.

Governor seeks permanent pre-k funding


Aundrea Kinney photos/Review • Castle Elementary School in Oakdale is one of the District 622 schools offering free pre-k to 4-year-olds this school year. Without the Legislature supporting renewed or permanent funding, the school may no longer be able to offer any free slots in its pre-k classes.

Funding affects District 622 and St. Mark’s Preschool differently.
