Bird-safe windows installed on Bell Museum

The new Bell Museum of Natural History and Planetarium that is currently under construction in Falcon Heights features bird-safe fritted glass windows. Though less than 30 percent of the museum will be glass, the second-floor box window is 25 feet high by 80 feet wide. The museum opens summer 2018.

The fritted glass windows are screen printed with dot patterns to appear as solid surfaces to birds, which can often fly into reflective windows.

After Minneapolis’ U.S. Bank Stadium made headlines for its unsafe-for-avians glass finish, one of Falcon Heights’ newest additions is attempting to be a safer structure for the birds.

Ramsey County announced six county road projects for 2017 that will take place in the area. 1: Resurfacing a 4,500-foot stretch of Cleveland Avenue; the road will go from four lanes to three. 2: Resurfacing of 3,600 feet of County Road B with the addition of bike lanes. 3: Installation of traffic signals and new lane striping at County Road B2 and Snelling Avenue. 4: Installation of sidewalks on Larpenteur Avenue along Tamarack Park. 5: New turn lanes at the intersection of Snelling and Larpenter Avenues. 6: Railway crossing work on Victoria Street just north of County Road C.

As temperatures more typical of April may be signaling an early spring, there are more familiar signs the end of winter nears: Ramsey County announced its slate of road projects for 2017.
