SNAPSHOT: Payne Avenue Poet Project unveiled

The Payne Avenue Poet project, a partnership between the East Side Arts Council and East Side poet Saymoukda Vongsay, wrapped up with a Sept. 15 poetry party and mural unveiling. The mural, which features people Vongsay met along Payne Avenue during the summer, is on the side of the arts council building located at 977 Payne Ave. The mural includes portraits and snippets of poetry created by Payne Avenue dwellers and visitors. More poetry can be found inside the East Side Arts Council’s office. Vongsay, who wrote her own poetry about Payne Avenue, said she’s still processing the experience, but said it was an honor to talk with people about their Payne Avenue stories.
