Apple season is well underway, and the Victoria Valley Orchard, located at 4304 Victoria St. in Shoreview, is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. this time of year. There are many varieties of delicious apples grown at the local orchard, such as the sweet and tangy Zestar!, juicy and flavorful SweeTango, aromatic and tart State Fair and well-balanced and versatile Red Baron, to name just a few. Star Spangled Music Day - Sept. 12

Oh say can you see?

Gathered around the flag pole waving flags or hands over their hearts, Christ Lutheran School students sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" as part of a nationwide 200th anniversary celebration of Francis Scott Key's inspired words. Students in kindergarten through 8th grade have been learning the history and significance of Key's lyrics.

Sstudents, staff, and parents gathered around the flag pole to sing for the Star Spangled Music Day Sept. 12.
Outfitted in red, white, and blue, students at Christ Lutheran School celebrated the bicentennial of what would become our national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner," penned by Francis Scott Key in Sept. 1814. "Defense of Fort McHenry," inspired by the 15 stars, 15 stripes American flag waving defiantly over the fort, would be set to John Stafford Smith's tune "To Anacreon in Heaven,"  and later became our national anthem.
