The Fifth Annual Project Blue Light Ceremony, held Nov. 21 at the Peace Officers Memorial at the State Capitol, honored police officers slain in the line of duty.


Coleman says 2011 budget has new services, no new taxes
After four years of working to provide better service at a better price, Mayor Chris Coleman announced today that the 2011 budget would mean no new or raised taxes in Saint Paul.

County tackles recycling in parks, along streets
Soon there'll be a lot more junk in our parks - noticeable junk, anyway.
After discussions with all 17 of its cities, Ramsey County got such an enthusiastic response to queries that it aims to move ahead with ordering 2,000 public recycling bins that its 13 interested cities can disperse as needed.

Mayor Chris Coleman selects his chief
Mayor Chris Coleman announced that he has selected current Assistant Police Chief Thomas Smith to succeed John Harrington as Chief of Police. The decision comes after months of committee deliberation, public forums and one-on-one interviews conducted by Mayor Coleman.

Preparing for high water, St. Paul lifts its pantslegs
To prepare for high waters along the river, St. Paul closed boat launches and restricted recreational boating March 18. City staff also closed Hidden Falls park and Lilydale park, and closed Water Street between the Smith Ave bridge and the Pool & Yacht Club in Lilydale.

St. Paul Police Foundation completes $500,000 fundraising effort
The Saint Paul Police Foundation presented the City of Saint Paul with a $500,000 check during the February 24 meeting of the Saint Paul City Council. The presentation marks the completion of private fundraising for the Saint Paul Police Department's Safe City Initiative.

Ramsey County's Union Depot renovation project gets significant boost from feds
Ramsey County's Union Depot Multimodal Hub renovation project received a significant boost today when federal officials announced the awarding of a $35 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Discretionary Grant, part of the Obama Administration's $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Firefighters get federal grant to train on automobile extrication
Saint Paul Fire Department has received $265,000 for the latest in rescue tools, and an additional $60,000 for special vehicle extrication training thanks to a Assistance to Firefighters Grant awarded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Firefighters 'rescue' kids who missed their school bus
Saint Paul Firefighters are able to perform all types of rescues. At 9 a.m. Oct. 5, Engine Co. 10 was returning to their station from an emergency call when they found two young children walking alone on Shepard Rd. in the 38 degree temperature.
