White Bear Avenue temporarily closed due to broken gas line


Solomon Gustavo/Review A construction crew hit a gas line while drilling on White Bear Avenue the morning of March 12, causing Maplewood Police to reroute traffic.

Around 10 a.m. on March 12, Maplewood police closed White Bear Avenue between Highway 36 and Gervais Avenue because a gas line was struck during construction.

Driver hits and kills pedestrian in Maplewood


Solomon Gustavo/Review A teddy bear is strapped to a traffic pole at the intersection of Southlawn Drive and County Road D where Jordan Ciampi, a 20-year-old from St. Paul, was hit by a driver the morning of March 4. He died from his injuries on March 8.

A driver hit a pedestrian the morning of March 4 on County Road D near the Maplewood Mall in Maplewood, and the person died from their injuries four days later.

Lake Elmo to receive 3M settlement cash for new well


file photo A planned groundwater well will replace a city well contaminated with chemicals made by 3M, with the help of about $2 million from a settlement 3M made with the state.

To replace a well contaminated with a 3M-manufactured chemical, Lake Elmo is receiving some $2 million from the State of Minnesota. The exact amount is still being ironed out.

Payne Avenue home explosion determined to be accidental


courtesy of the St. Paul Fire Department The home at 672 Payne Ave. was leveled Nov. 23, the day after Thanksgiving, by an explosion that could be heard and felt across east metro communities. Fire department investigators said the explosion, which killed the 80-year-old man who lived in the home, was likely caused by a gas leak.

Investigators say most likely due to natural gas leak
