Work keeps moving along on WSP Hy-Vee


courtesy of City of West St. Paul A Hy-Vee is moving into the space currently held by the YMCA on Thompson Avenue and Robert Street in West St. Paul. The new retailer will have a gas station, liquor store and restaurant, as well as other expected grocery store amenities.

Work keeps moving ahead for a long-time rumor that’s coming true in West St. Paul — on Nov. 26, the West St. Paul City Council approved a series of resolutions that help move a new Hy-Vee grocery store closer to reality.

Comedian Davey Wester, who calls himself an “adopted East Sider” — a nickname given to him by his East Side friends — will be coming back to the neighborhood Dec. 15 for two comedy shows at Caydence Records and Coffee.

More Maryland Ave. construction coming in 2 years


courtesy of Ramsey County Coming up in 2020, Maryland Avenue between Edgerton and Clark streets will be reconstructed to add turn lanes at Maryland and Edgerton and to widen the lanes from 10 to 11 feet wide. Plans also include sidewalk improvements and updates to city water and sewer infrastructure.

If it seems like Maryland Avenue is always under construction, it might be because it nearly is.

Little Canada set to help produce distributor move to town


Mike Munzenrider Little Canada approved on Nov. 29 using tax increment financing to help BIX Produce Company purchase and move into the Slumberland distribution facility off Centerville Road.

The Little Canada City Council is ready to help a produce distributor take over a large warehouse complex at the north end of the city, with hopes that job creation will follow.
